Surprise Party Guest Helps Happy Couple Mark 65 Years of Marriage

Recently, within our welcoming care home, we had the joy of celebrating a remarkable milestone - the 65th wedding anniversary of our cherished residents, Beryl and David. Joined by their dear old neighbour, Lord Provost David Cameron, the couple commemorated this special occasion in style, a heartwarming tale that even graced the pages of our local newspaper. Their daughters, Gillian and Allison, added to the festivities by presenting the couple with heartfelt gifts.

Although their official blue sapphire wedding anniversary falls on the 19th of March, 2024, Beryl and David couldn't escape the spotlight at Deeside Care Home. To mark this significant moment in their lives, we organised a surprise party in their honour, with Lord Provost David Cameron graciously attending. Sharing a history of residing on the same Mannofield street for many years, the trio relished the opportunity to reminisce about old times.

David Cameron stated "I love doing these events, however this one is extra special today because I've known the couple for so long."

We asked Mr Steele what the secret is into a long marriage, he simply said "We have always been a partnership since the beginning. We have always been an equal team, thats the secret."

Beryl and David have shared a truly remarkable journey together. David, just 17 at the time, crossed paths with Beryl while pursuing his studies in architecture and working as a fish secretary at Aberdeen's Beach Ballroom.

Their love story flourished, though they initially kept it under wraps until David's bus driver father unexpectedly spotted them enjoying a meal at the Old Monkey House on Union Street, now Chaophraya. In 1959, the couple exchanged vows and embarked on a new chapter in Edinburgh, where David pursued his studies in civil engineering. Eventually, they returned to Aberdeen, where they built their family and David lectured on architecture.

Listening to the tales shared by our residents about how they first met and the incredible journeys they've undertaken is truly inspiring. We're delighted to have had the opportunity to organise celebrations for Beryl and David, a couple who truly deserve every moment of joy and recognition.
