Knitting, Memories And Music At Deeside Care Home

Residents at Deeside Care Home in Cults, Aberdeen, enjoyed a lovely day filled with creativity, reminiscence and music, with opportunities to spend time together and celebrate familiar interests.

The morning began with our Knit and Knatter group, where residents came together to enjoy some knitting and a good chat. Alongside their creative projects, conversations turned to Aberdeen and memories of the city, giving everyone the chance to share stories and reflect on familiar places and experiences.

Knitting can be a rewarding activity for residents, offering a gentle way to keep hands busy while enjoying the company of others. Just as importantly, groups like Knit and Knatter create a relaxed space for conversation, helping friendships grow and giving residents the opportunity to share their skills, interests and memories.

In the afternoon, the day continued with a visit to Cults Kirk Centre for Music to Remember. Residents enjoyed listening to familiar tunes, singing along and sharing memories inspired by the music. Songs can hold special meaning throughout our lives, often bringing back memories of people, places and important moments. Hearing a well-loved melody can provide a natural starting point for conversation and create a sense of connection through shared experiences.

Music sessions also offer a wonderful opportunity for residents to express themselves, whether by singing along, listening quietly or enjoying the atmosphere with others. Everyone can take part in their own way, making these occasions enjoyable and accessible.

At Deeside Care Home, we recognise how important it is for residents to continue enjoying activities that bring them happiness and a sense of belonging. From creative mornings spent knitting and chatting to afternoons filled with music and reminiscence, these everyday experiences help make life at the home meaningful and enjoyable.

It was lovely to see residents making the most of both activities, sharing stories about Aberdeen and enjoying familiar songs together. We look forward to more opportunities to get creative, revisit treasured memories and make new ones with our local community.
